South Central Region Update
Last weekend, the NCWSA South Central Regional Championships were held at Lakes of Katy. As the largest tournament in the region this season—with nine teams and over 150 skiers—it offers a promising outlook for the future of our sport. The event featured outstanding skiing performances, notable development among emerging officials, and the rekindling of friendships, both new and old.
Five South Central Region teams have qualified for the NCWSA Nationals taking place this week: the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, the University of Louisiana at Monroe, Texas A&M University, Texas State University, and the University of Texas. Congratulations to all qualifying teams—we wish you the very best of luck at Nationals!
A sincere thank you goes to Lisa and Kelvin Kelm, along with all members of the Lakes of Katy Ski Club, for hosting such an exceptional event.
National & Regional Announcements
The 2026 Goode Water Ski National Championships will be held at Trophy Lakes in Center City, Minnesota, during the second week of August. This promises to be a major highlight for the upcoming season.
In regional news, we are pleased to announce that Lakes of Cypress Hill in Cypress, Texas, will host the prestigious SCR Junior Development Tournament on June 20–21, 2026.
Regional Championship Planning & Feedback
Bruce Butterfield, our 2025 National Championship Chief Judge and esteemed SCR Director, has presented new ideas aimed at refreshing the format of next year’s Regional Championships. His proposal is attached for your review.
Both the SCR Directors and Council would like your input. Please take a few moments to complete the attached feedback survey.
We are also currently accepting bids to host the 2026 SCR Championships. If your club is interested or would like more information, please contact the SCR EVP via email.
Council Business
An item currently under Council consideration is the introduction of two new awards to be presented alongside the existing Jeffery Armstrong and Billy Reeves Awards. The proposed awards would recognize the Chief Safety Officer and Chief Technical Controller at the SCR Championships. This proposal was brought forward during the summer, and I fully support it—these individuals play vital roles in the success and safety of our events and are truly deserving of such recognition.
End-of-Season Reminders
As we approach the end of the season, I will begin reviewing SCR record applications. If you believe you have set a new record, please submit your application by emailing it to SCREVP@gmail.com.
Lastly, the USOPC and SafeSport have reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the physical and mental well-being of our athletes, officials, and volunteer board members. A key focus of their ongoing efforts is ensuring that all individuals in our sport are treated with the respect and professionalism they deserve. We encourage everyone to remain engaged as further updates related to this important initiative become available.
